So after a long fight over the new pattern of JEE, a compromised formula was announced on June 27 for the common entrance test. We reported this here - IIT JEE 2013: Finally resolved with a new formula [JEE advanced for ranking, JEE main for filtering and XII marks for eligibility]. According to this new pattern, JEE Main will be used to filter students (around 1,50,000 in number) and JEE main will be followed by JEE advanced with only these selected students. The admission for IIT will be based on the rank obtained in JEE advanced. It does not end here. Now 12th board marks will also play a key role. Only those students will be considered eligible who are in top 20 percentile mark in their respective boards.
One of the fundamental reasons this debate started was that the IIT JEE and other engineering entrance exams cause lot of stress among students preparing for these exams. They need to do lot of extra work for these exams while still managing their school studies. Sometime they had travel to far off places like Kota and spend lot of money for coaching classes.
Now that the new pattern has been announced, we ask the same fundamental question – has the new pattern reduced stress among students?
Please participate in this poll and let us know your opinion in comments!
It depends. For students who were ignoring their school studies, this will definitely increase the stress level. It will also depend on the kind of questions asked in JEE main. If it is like AIEEE then I think it will be same.
yes it will increase stress because now we need to study for main also
Earlier the students had to get 60% in Boards and top the JEE. Now they have to top the boards (do better then 80 percentile of the other students), they have to top the mains and get in the shortlisted 1,50,000 and finally top the Advanced. Three tests for one seat! Obviously the stress will be more. I dont think the idea was to reduce stress I think the idea of the new pattern is to see which student can withstand the maximum stress and still make it without breaking.
the idea is to suck the blood of students and stress them to the levels that they either suicide or leave the option of engineering. iit wants to see that the students which do not get into iit be nowhere therefore reducing competition to IIT brand engineers because they fear talented students will outshine them even if they don’t manage to get into IIT . this is because IIT standards are falling down and they don’t manage to create world class professionals like before. answer these How many engineers or scientists IIT has given in recent times that have invented or discovered something new or got any awards like noble prize or their other equivalent?? IIT’ians are reputed to earn huge amounts of money and they make records for only that thing . I think IIT should concentrate less on making exam patterns tough and make world class professionals like that of MIT ,Harvard, Cambridge etc because every tough exam is crack-able by least worthy students.
