There is some hope that the uncertainty over JEE pattern will get resolved today (June 27,2012). IIT Council is meeting today with MHRD to resolve this issue.
The main contentious points that need to resolved are -
Inclusion of 12th board marks
Earlier, MHRD announcement on May 28 said that 12th board marks will be weighted in the selection criteria for admission to IITs and NITs. For IITs, 12th board marks will be used as filtering process along with JEE main (50% each) for JEE advanced. While for NITs and other colleges, 12th board marks will carry 40% weightage. This decision was not taken well by most of the IITs.
Another option that can be compromising formula, is that 12th board marks be used as eligibility criteria for appearing for JEE. For instance only students with top 20 percentile marks be allowed for JEE. This will basically set the cut-off to 80 percentile.
Schedule for JEE Main and JEE Advanced
The earlier announcement said that JEE Main and JEE Advanced would be conducted on the same day. There is a possibility that this can change and the date of JEE advanced be decided by IITs. Some stakeholders think that conducting both tests on a single day can add to the stress of students. According to the new compromised formula, the JEE advanced date might be fixed such that JEE main results be available before it.
When will the new pattern for JEE take into effect?
The MHRD is very particular, for whatsoever reason, that the common entrance test with the new pattern should be introduced from year 2013. While many other think that it is too late to introduce it from year 2013 as most of the students are halfway in their preparation. Generally, students start preparing for JEE after their 10th exam – 2 years before the JEE. Some start even before.

Students are mentally prepared for ISEET 2013. Therefore, ISEET should be conducted from 2013 onwards. It is better to look at the positive aspects of the ISEET proposed. It will do away with multiple entrance examinations and reduce the stress levels of students.
