IIT Kanpur rejects Common Entrance Test (ISEET); to conduct its own test

IIT Kanpur has decided that it will conduct its own entrance test for admitting students to its B.Tech program. The decision was taken by the IITK senate today.

According to the senate, the proposed common entrance test violates the IIT act 1961 and IIT Kanpur Ordinances. The resolution passed by the IIT Kanpur senate further adds -

“the Senate authorizes the Chairman Senate to constitute a Committee with the help of DOAA for conducting JEE 2013 by IIT Kanpur.”

“The Undergraduate Admissions Committee will organize the entrance examination and counselling, and deal with all other matters pertaining to the undergraduate admissions in 2013″

IIT Kanpur is also ready to coordinate with other IITs to conduct this exam.

“To the extent possible, the committee will coordinate with other IITs to conduct the entrance examination jointly”

IIT Kanpur website also has an interesting page covering all the documents and news item related to admission to IITs in 2013. Check this out - Documents Related to Change of Admission Process to IITs in 2013

According to news item on NDTV, it is likely that IIT Delhi will also follow the IITK model.

Now, this is really getting very ugly. Both the sides are not ready to budge. One camp is pushing for the unproven common entrance test while another one wants to keep the good old JEE alive. Lets hope that this gets resolved as soon as possible. This is really getting on nerves of students – specially those who are appearing in year 2013.
