[Update: The latest news on new pattern is here - IIT JEE 2013: Finally resolved with a new formula [JEE advanced for ranking, JEE main for filtering and XII marks for eligibility]
So finally there is an end to confusion among students regarding the entrance test for IITs, NITs and IIITs.
From 2013, all aspiring students will have to attempt the new format of entrance test. The new entrance test will also take class 12th board results into consideration. The announcement was made by HRD minister Mr. Kapil Sibal today as was promised earlier.
Here are key points about the announcements -
1. The entrance test will have two parts – Main Test and Advanced Test. Both the tests will be conducted on the same day.
2. The selection process for IITs and other central funded institutes (NIT, IIIT etc) will be different.
3. Selection to IITs – Selection to IITs will be a two step process. The first step will be filtering process. In this filtering process, 12th board results and the main test will be give 50 percent weightage each. In the second step, the top 50,000 students will be selected for the advanced test after taking into account their performance in the filtering step – 12th board marks and the main test. For selection to IITs, merit only in the advanced test will be considered.
4. Selection to centrally funded institutes- For admissions to other institutes, there would be 40 percentage weightage for performance in class 12, 30 per cent weightage to performance in main and 30 per cent in the advanced test. Class 12 marks will be considered after normalization. This is same as what was proposed earlier.
5. IIT council has agreed to move to the other system later from year 2015.
6. Student will get a rank for IITs and also a rank for NITs and IIITs. Student will give choice for both and will get a seat depending on which is first choice in either.
7. The main test will be multiple choice type paper
8. The advance test will be decided by the joint address board (JAB) of the IITs. As it is known that IITs prefer subjective type of question, it is likely that this might be a subjective type paper. Sibal has made it clear that JAB of the IIT system would have complete control on matters such as paper setting, evaluation and preparation of merit list over the advanced test.
9. CBSE will provide administrative support for conduct of the examination.
10. An expanded joint admission board will be constituted including the NIT, other centrally funded institutes and state government representatives for conduct of the main examination.
11. The state boards will have the flexibility to adopt the new format the determine their own relative weightages for state engineering institutes.
12. Those who have appeared in the Class XII Board examinations in 2012 and wish to improve upon their performance can appear again for the Board examinations in 2013. The CBSE and the State Boards will make appropriate arrangements through a special dispensation.
13. The exam will be called JEE.
Now this answers a lot of questions students were facing in past few months. However, there are still some questions that would need quick answers
- Why is this decision taken in haste? Why from 2013 itself, when some of the students are already halfway through their studies?
- What would be the syllabus for main test and advanced test?
- How many times can one student appear for this test?
- Earlier, Mr. Sibal had noted that this exam would be conducted more than once a year. Does it still hold?
Do you have more questions? What do you think about the new pattern? Are you happy with the decision? Please comment.
I think EDUFLIX can provide proper guidelines for study process of the new pattern but still there are confusion regarding main test and advanced test.
I think if the paper of the advance test will be subjective, then it may create problems for students of previos years.
How many times a student can give iseet?
this is worst as scoring in boards is cakewalk as cheating in every board is rampant obviously duffers and donkeys will get advantage….very much disappointed
…
Will only the marks in P.C.M. be counted for CBSE results?
Looks English also …
board toppers will get an advantage..
any one can score in the board examinations ….simply rote learning system where one just thinks to score well just thinks to be the top scorer….
there is no clarity of the concepts among the students who prepare just to score well in the boards………………….
i don’t know why this new system is focusing on the board marks .also shocked to see there is no one to convince and prove that one cannot understand the concepts and will not b able to enjoy the real science
SOMEBODY MUST TRY TO REMOVE THIS WEIGHTAGE ON THE BOARDS .
STUDENTS REALLY INTERESTED IN SCIENCE AND RESEARCH WILL BE LAG BEHIND.
HOW WILL THEN INDIA RANK BETTER IN THE RESEARCH FIELD?
please forward ………………….
What will be the syllabus of main and advance………..in giving final dicision, dicided are very late it should be from 2013.you have late very much kapil so dont use new pattern from from 2013
what about architecture admissions through ISEET? Any idea about the exam pattern or syllabus for getting admission in to First Year B.Arch degree course?please help.
kindly inform about ARCHITECTURE Admission under ISEET13…
it should not be implemented frm 2013….. an unfair decision…..very very unfair….. firstly they ruined 10th board exam …..n now it comes to IIT…..
its a gUd 1 but sibal sir shud tak care dat the new system shudnt b subjectiv, i.e da advancEd 1…aa it'd b a raises stonE to many who did n't ppepar 4 it nd r in dA dubway….oR dy shud do it aftR 2013..
Why so hurry in implementing the new pattern iseet?
I know a student who got around 500 rank in jee and 58/100 in 12 boards.
Sorry i forgot to say it was his chem marks in boards.
one more question remains un answered is…. xii th board marks will be considered in toto or only of physics chemestry and maths?
What type of questions will be asked in the main test?
like AIEEE
What about Repeaters
Your Comment Hereiit se india roshan tha dunia mein dunia se india roshan rahe jai ho desh ki…
with due respect I would like to say that it is not a correct. Way to select the talent. Old pattern is much much efficient than new one. It horrible for the students of2012 batch. Is any kind of helping rule is avaliable for us.
This is not a fair system
I know a student who got full marks in practicals because he knew the teacher iit s select best candidates from india the students clearing iit have a better understanding of the science and maths subjects. They have very clear subjects u can score good marks in boards just by cramming all the colleges such as iit and nit do not hold same criteria of test for selection the best talent of india is selected In iit Kapil sibbal is doing all these things against iit senates they do not agree for change in pattern from 2013onwards I have heard that iit senates will knock the door of supreme court. On Monday they have written a letter to kapil sibbal mentioning the complaints Kapil sibbal ne bina iit senates ki permition ke common entrance system ka decision kar Ilya this is too bad. He does not have any sense.
Politicians iss Desh ko Barbad karna chahte hain
whether 2011 batch student would be allowed to sit in iseet 2013 , if selected is there any chance of a seat in iit ?
” IIT council has agreed to move to the other system later from year 2015.” What does it mean? Can anyone explain?
I think it means moving to the same system as for NITs and other colleges – 40%, 30%, 30%. Not sure though..
how can i study of this exam, Ididnt know about it?
I am totaly confused
this kapil sibal don't hv sense.he spoils the value of the most prestigious institution-iit.this increase the stress of students.this is purely a political play.
Its good that board results will be included in iits, nits so students will concentrate on their boards which earlier were thought to be useless.according to me Mr Kappil Sibbal has taken the right decision.
Hello!Could anyone apprise me what the main and advanced papers would be like-I mean would the be an aptitude test;subjective or objective?
Somebody plz answer! This is so flabbergasting…..!
I am agreed with the iseet pattern but to give wiehtage to the the board marks is surely unfare for upboard students who after severe hard work can score 70%marks. so I request to remove boards %whietage from this exam..its cruality with those students…….
I just want an answer regarding the weightage of class XII marks.. whether only PCM marks will be taken into considertaion or the total marks of XII will be taken into considertaion.. Considering PCM marks into weightage is a good idea but considering whole %age of XII is not because XII %age comprises eng and a secondary sub which could be Bio with Maths, Commerce with maths
Economics with maths.. and it is a clear that the person with PCM+B stream will not get better maks than a person with PCM+commerce or +economice or +c.s.. So instead taking full marks %age only PCM mmarks should be taken into consideration and IIT too requires these subject but nnot bio, commerce, economics, computer science.
Very valid point Rajat. Unfortunately, there is no clarity yet whether it would be just PCM. However considering the fact that MHRD wants students to concentrante on 12th boards, it is likely that they would consider all the subjects. Anyways, as I said, we will have to wait for more clarity.
I want to know what is the need of common entrance examination. In cbse class xii results the best of 5 sub. Marks is taken so student who have taken am extra subject will have a better chance of yualifiwhng in the ethe examinatiom. willl get good percent
kapil sibal is a great danger on indian education. certainly he is the part of any group who do not want indians to be a good engineer. the decision of JEE – 2013 is being taken in a very unusual manner , this is not a democratic thought.kabil sibal has terminated the board exams of 10th standard….after these things he want to destroy the value of IIT-JEE…….in future certainly he will move towards medical field and would affect that.HE IS A BLACK MARK ON INDIAN'S PRESTIGE.
bhai ye kapil khud toh pada likha h ni or ye chahta h ki hum bhi na pade…,.
See i think students of 2011 should also be given a chance in iseet 2013 and should be given a chance for improvement also..because applying without a minimum of 85% is kind of useless from now on..the older pattern was correct aieee had 3 chances iit jee was at 2 chances..just because someone could not make a great impact twice doesn’t mean you take away his only shot or he has not got potential..
well…..it is proved now india is half full with corruptions. The politicians have involvd even the education system to politicis. They only need prestige and respects….thay don't bother abt the students in reality.
Mr.kapil sibal and the council hav put the 2013 engineerng aspirants in a state of confusion abt thr career.even the 2014 aspirants are also confusd abt thr career who r seekng for nits and iit..Its 5 month now we studnts r goin to stress and pressure abt this new pattern…its time now we need a proper decission.its already half of june, 8 mnths to go for our boards and 9 mnths for joints.atlest give the proper decision and let us be relaxd n allow us to study..GIve us the syllabus, pattern, papers.India is busy in corruptions and politicis and is not even botherd abt the education system. KAPIL SIBAL SIR SHOULD ATLEST THINK ABOUT THOSE STUDNTS WHO R GOIN TO GIVE 12TH BOARD IN 2013 AND IIT NIT ASPIRANTS OF 2013 CUZ ITS A PEAK TIME FOR THEM AND THEY HAVE ONLY 6 TO 8 MNTHS…
yup it was in da newspaper today and nw it luks our fate is in the hand of politicians however… It has not become final i guess it had gone for consideration
hey what abt the students who give 2012 boards and didn’t want to improve…..
Is there any option or they have to give board again…?
It’s a real ………..
hello, kya dono teston ka ek (purana) hi syllabus rahega.
It is not the right desicion as if there will be subjective paper for IIT then it will definitely create problems for students.on the other hand, students have to secure very high percentage in their academics, which is nearly impossible to do so. So subjective paper should not be included in this entrance .
I think entrance exam for NIT and IIT should be separate as there will be confusions among students how to prepare and also the question paper should be objective type because it is very difficult to prepare for subjective type and we have also to pass our class llX exam with great remarks for which there is 40% weightage…
is pattermn se india me good enginneers to paida hona band hi ho jayega,, ab india india devloping country se under 2 devloping country ban jayega .
i think that both the paper should be objective
because it will be little difficult for students to prepare for subjective paper
if boards numbers are taken into conserdation
then why needs subjective paper?
boards exam subjective hi to hote hai
how many times a student can give this test? and what are the min. marks to score to be selected?
sir,now i am studying inter first year,n i have a doubt that how many marks should i get in iseet exam to get a seat in nit
what type of decision is that. A common Entrance test. Common it should be stopped
what about 2012 passout their may be students who had got 60% marks and above and wasting their one year in coaching instiutes pls for them remove this weightage process
